Tapered roller bearings can support large radial and large thrust loads. They are used where they are usually mounted in pairs facing opposite directions; when in pairs, they can be installed in back-to-back or face-to-face arrangement so that they can handle thrust in both directions. They can be installed in a tandem arrangement as well to increase one-directional axial resistance.
Tapered roller bearings have tapered inner and outer ring raceways and tapered rollers. The axial load carrying capacity of tapered roller bearings increases with increasing contact angle.
